How to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Personality Test?

UPSC Civil Service Prepare Personality Test | Interview Plan

The interview is the component of your preparation for which you will receive good marks if you prepare well. Chetan Bharat Learning offers the best Online UPSC Coaching in Chandigarh.

The most essential thing is to eliminate negative ideas and to take care of your body and mind.

1. Prepare for general questions:

Some general questions are frequently posed, such as "Why civil service?"

  • Why civil service after a career in engineering or medicine?
  • Why is this service/cluster preference?
  • Will you retry if you get IPS?
  • Are you willing to work in Meghalaya?  And so forth.

Preparing an answer, modulating it, and rehearsing it in front of your interview trainer is the best approach to preparing. Please follow through on this. Many times, expected inquiries like this arise, and people do make mistakes here as well.

2. Study the Basics of current affairs:

  • Assume the newspaper has an article about women in the army.
  • If you had done your homework, you would have discovered that women do not serve in combat jobs in the army.
  • The decision concerns non-combat command positions in the army.

3. Know the basics of your graduation:

There are some bright students with poor college academic records.

  • If you are an ECE Engineer, you should understand why a mobile phone is referred to as a cell phone.
  • If you are a doctor, you should be familiar with the Hippocratic oath.
  • If you are a civil engineer, you should be familiar with Le Corbusier, and Laurie Baker, and the usage of fly ash, among other things.
  • You should look for questions at the intersection of your academics and daily life.

4. Address the question:

  • Always try to address the question.
  • For example, a candidate from Tamil Nadu would be asked, "Can you explain the cinema-politics link in Tamil Nadu?" The candidate responds, "The current CM does not have a cinema background." Rajaji also had no prior experience in the film industry.

Feedback: This is an inadequate response. She should have said that Tamil Nadu has a strong cinema-politics connection. This is because Tamil films from the 1980s have a strong link to popular politics and mass hero-based movies, which created a personality cult for the heroes and paved the way for theaters. In addition, the social influence of cinema theaters equitized society by forcing people to sit together in the theater.

5. Study root cause:

  • Question for a Kerala candidate: What is the root cause of the Mullaperiyar issue?
  • The correct response should be: The problem stems from the stepmotherly treatment by the British Raj (Madras province) of a princely state (Travancore) by signing a deal in favour of Madras province.
  • Similarly, investigate the root causes of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, as well as the participation of the United States.

6. Never say unverified things in the interview:

  • When a candidate was asked what he thought about Nepal's shift toward China in comparison to India. He correctly stated yes, but he also stated that India sponsored revolts in Nepal and interfered with Nepal's constitution-making process.

Feedback -The general Nepali public's opinion of India's purported participation in Nepal's internal process has led to a hostile attitude toward India.

7. Questions to know your stand:

  • There are a few questions that you should not avoid answering.
  • For example, what are your thoughts on women entering Sabarimala?
  • You should take a stand now and respond appropriately. Simply stating that I will obey what the government says/what the judiciary says, or simply refusing to answer, will upset the interviewer.
  • When pressed, you should unquestionably take a position. The question is which stance to take.
  • Normally, take a stance that is supported by the government or the judiciary. Nonetheless, be aware of and acknowledge the existence of opposing viewpoints. However, if you have a strong conviction, you can take a stand against the government/judiciary.

8. Work on your biodata:

  • Examine interview transcripts and work on the fundamentals of your biodata.
  • There is a set of questions on each topic that you should work on.

9. I don’t know:

  • You can improve your interview score by saying "I don't know" properly.
  • Only use this for factual queries.
  • Inform them politely.
  • After that, smile subtly.
  • For seemingly simple questions, tell me that I should have known it but can't remember.
  • Never say, I went to college a long time ago and can't remember anything.

10. The answer should flow from you:

  • For example, a candidate once stated that he ranked IAAS higher than the IRS because his buddies told him to.
  • It makes no sense to choose something based on what your buddies have told you.
  • Instead, it should have been YOU who picked IAAS over IRS because YOU felt so and so.
  • You should be able to respond.

Finally, Belief:

  • The most significant aspect.
  • Believe in your ability to succeed. Believe it wholeheartedly.
  • Once you have ingrained the belief in yourself, it will flow and be felt in your responses. Make the interviewers feel something.
